Butt_er
Butt_er is a serie of material samples part of Butts Ocean Project which is a collection of materials made out of cigarette butts which I personally collected from ashtrays and the ground. Butt_er is colorful, unexpected, raw and abstract but at the same time it clearly suggests its plastic properties and therefore its possible usage. It is filthy, stinky and consumed. It is the product of something that once was clean, white, odorless and perfectly shaped. Cigarette butts are highly polluting and after the combustion process the cigarette filter becomes brownish and smelly. Butt_er maintains all these characteristics avoiding dispersion of inorganic and polluting matter into the environment. At the same time it also incorporates pieces of time, life, organics of each person who smoked the cigarette: lipstick traces, breath. Butt_er recalls the act of smoking, its meaning and consequences and exploring possibilities of new aesthetics far from the industrial perfection.
